“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles…” Is 40:31
Brittany claims transformation as the main theme of her time at Family Life Services. “I was like a caterpillar growing into a butterfly. Family Life was my cocoon: my safe place where I could take time to grow and thrive and get back on my feet! By the end, I was stronger and able to fly on my own.”
Like every mom we serve, Brittany came from a tough situation and says she was pretty down when she arrived. But she joined FLS because she was courageously choosing a new life for herself and her kids. She says she truly understood what she was committing to, and that it would involve a lot of time and hard work.
But the program drew out her strength. “I was depressed when I came, but needing to participate in the program every week, seeing all the other moms, sometimes three times a week – I was fine with it! I found that the routine really supported me and helped me to move forward.”
The physical space was also a source of comfort, knowing she was someplace safe to call home. She especially loved the rule about no men on campus. “The campus felt safe without men. My abuser didn’t know where I lived.”
Brittany has many memories of the positive aspects of her time at FLS that stand out. But the one she keeps coming back to is the amount of support: from other moms, from Sandra (Resident Program Coordinator), Tonya (Operations Director), everyone. “The amount of support you receive – it’s amazing!”
The one piece of advice that Brittany would offer other moms hoping to come to FLS? “Only come if you’re ready to make a change. But if you are lucky enough to be able to come to FLS, be ready to make a change and build a new life!”
