Connie’s Story: Safe harbor to think, pray, prosper

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

In her own words, recent FLS resident Connie shares what FLS meant to her and her kids:

The best part of the program was that FLS gave me the opportunity to have space to literally think. I knew my children were safe, secure and warm. The lights were on. That gave me the freedom to think through everything. I could get back on my feet.

Another great part of the program was being exposed to women who were facing similar – or even completely different – circumstances.   No matter what their background or situation – we were all at ground zero. We were all starting over.  The community, the comradery among the women was important to me.

It also allowed me to help the other people living there, to show them that it is going to be OK, that God is going to provide.  Believing and living it shows others that it’s true. We all have worries and problems, but I could show others that God helped me every step of the way.  But I learned that I have to GIVE it to God to live it. I cannot hold on to it. Once you give it all to God, He can help change it.

Having and growing in my faith during that time was everything. Every night I talked to God, in the end dropping to my knees. Even just praising and thanking Him. I was often up at night 3am, knowing God was there, just praying, thinking, feeling.

What would I tell other women coming to our program? This is going to be a time to safely grow – and you’ll have support. Is everything perfect? Of course not, the program is still growing. But the support available is great and building rapport is awesome. We each need to reach a goal, but we will need different ways to get there. We’re not all at the same level. It’s going to take being vulnerable, being honest with yourself and with God.

FLS can help truly make a difference. It did for me and my kids!

Thank you, FLS Supporters, for helping God to provide for Connie’s family and all of our moms and kids!
