Our part in history…
Family Life Services has been helping children and families for over 65 years. Originally an orphanage, named The Christian Home for Children, the 2.5 acre property is tucked away in a surprisingly serene location just outside the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. The turn-of-the-last-century-mansion was purchased by Carroll and Dorothy Brown and donated to John and Nan Walden. The Waldens, founders and directors of the orphanage, moved into the new home from their previous residence on North Weber with their 34 children.
Though current adoption and foster care initiatives no longer call for orphanages, Family Life Services continues in its heritage of serving. Over the years, the generous spirit of donors and volunteers has allowed the property to thrive and expand in order to meet the needs of changing families. Whether orphanage, safe-haven, or residential facility for families in transition, the site of Family Life Services has nurtured generations of children and families who may have otherwise been homeless and hopeless.
Our mission today…
Since 1989 Family Life Services has focused on helping single moms and their children rebuild their lives and bring their families closer together. We offer comfortable, low-fee living quarters, licensed counseling, support groups, and one-to-one mentoring. By setting goals and meeting objectives, our resident families become an integral part of their own healing process. For up to two years, residents are provided the means to achieve financial and emotional stability, spiritual wholeness and hope for their family’s future.
Our impact on tomorrow…
Family Life Services prepares its residents to deal with the overwhelming challenges that come with single-parent households. As we survey the needs of tomorrow’s families, we are prayerfully considering ways to make an even greater difference by offering services designed to nurture healing in entire families. In addition, we hope to expand our ministry to accommodate increased counseling needs in our community and support our growing children’s ministry.
Looking ahead, Family Life Services is both humbled and excited by our mission to build hope in families that seek to take a healing step forward. Please join us by offering your support at this pivotal time in the life of our ministry.
