The Courage to Forgive

Aug 10, 2010

Local author and speaker Joyce Villieneuve will be participating in a book signing for her first release, The Courage to Forgive at Pikes Perk Coffee and Tea House on 5965 North Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs on Aug 21st from 10am to 1pm. A portion of sales from this event will go to benefit the ministry of Family Life Services. “This is an exciting opportunity for Family Life Services.” reports Julie Abel, Executive Director of FLS. “Joyce’s book represents a theme that our families wrestle and work through every day, so we are blessed to be asked to partner with Mrs. Villieneuve as she shares her personal story of hope and forgiveness with others.”

Help the Eagle Scout Project

July 27, 2010

Alex Jessen is planning an Eagle Scout project that will benefit Family Life Services, but he's needing help with fundraising. So we're helping out by posting this and allowing him to collect through our online giving page. If you desire to help help Alex achieve Eagle Scout then please do so. Alex's own words:

Hello,
Alex Jessen Life Scout My name is Alex Jessen, and I am a Life Scout in Troop #194 of Gleneagle.  I am working on a project for Family Life Services to help earn my Eagle Scout rank. I plan to make some improvements to the property at Family Life Services.
Firstly, I plan to build two and a half foot tall, wooden fences to enclose the flowerbeds at two of the buildings on site. The fences will be painted the color of the houses and will be attached to metal posts cemented in place for stability. The fences will provide protection for both the landscaping and the children playing in the area.
Secondly, I will correct a drainage problem at the main house by burying a thirty foot drainage pipe in the ground.  Right now the water drains into a low spot causing flooding.   In the winter, the water freezes and becomes a slipping hazard.
Lastly, I will be trimming overgrown vegetation at the back fence of the property.  I will also rake up dead leaves and trash in the area.  Right now I desperately need donations to buy materials to complete this project.  The total project costs about $500, but donations in any amount would be greatly appreciated.  You may give through Family Life Service’s online giving page.
Thank you for your help and support.

The resident children at Family Life Services have a new reason to smile!

treehouse

Thanks to a grant from the Pikes Peak Community Foundation the resident children at Family Life Services now have an exciting new feature to play on. With the help of Mr. Mark & Crystal Miller, Mountain Springs Community Church, Eric Garrett (FLS Child & Youth Coordinator), Stan & Linda Peters (FLS Operations Manager and Resident Couple) volunteers from Mountain Springs Community Church were utilized to construct an outstanding tree house for the children of the ministry. Family Life Services was also able to update several landscaping features around the home due to this gift.

“This construction is more than a tree house, it is testimony to what our community can do to help hurting families when we pull resources and man-power together. Our resident children will be blessed by this endeavor for years to come.” – Julie Abel, Executive Director.
