Family Life Services is pleased to announce Sues Hess to the new position of Community Relations Director. Sues will be working with the Colorado Springs community to engage volunteers, donors, and assist with communication efforts for the ministry. Her position is effective immediately.
We sat down with Sues to get to know her better.
Sues, tell us a little about yourself:
I grew up in the rural Midwest. When my oldest sister became a teenage mom, I realized my need for the Lordship of Christ. A full commitment to Christ has changed my life.
I have worked in a variety of ministries, developing programs to bring Christ to others in practical ways, and then equipping them to serve the body of Christ. I have worked with the Christian Medical Society, in public relations in professional sports, and with the Crisis Pregnancy Centers in Dallas. I served for over 10 years in Europe as a missionary, visiting communist countries prior to the fall of the “Iron Curtain”, and as a pastor’s wife in rural Austria, where I coordinated the local women’s ministry.
Wow! That is exciting. Since being back in Colorado Springs, what work have you been focused on?
For nearly 15 years I served with Biblica, primarily as Director of Outreach. I focused on emotional/ spiritual care following disasters, partnerships with relief and development ministries, refugee/immigration issues, leadership development and global sports initiatives.
I was a single mom for 5 years after nearly 20 years of marriage. I have been married to Tom since 2010. Together we are passionate about helping the body of Christ to create movements of transformation.
What is one of your biggest thrills?
I’m thrilled that all 3 of my sons love the Lord! They are great young men who actively seek to serve the Lord by loving their neighbors as themselves.
OK now it’s time for to really get to know you. Tell us something that someone might not know about you?
Well, I had my own talk show at one time. I love communications! I’ve also worked with John McEnroe in the past. One other fun nugget is that I’ve actually taken three members of the Brazilian World Cup Championship Team shopping. I don’t know many folks who have done that.
Oh yes – I do go by the nickname “Sues” – there have simply been too many Susans in my life. Tom and I love to hike, entertain, and travel.
Welcome aboard Sues! If you would like to contact Sues Hess with questions on getting involved with Family Life Services please call (719) 632–4661 or stop by the the office Monday-Thursday and ask for her.
