So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who belong to the family of faith. Galatians 6:10 (NET)
What do you do when opportunity knocks? Ignore it, wait until it passes by, or jump on it, seize the opportunity and continue until you have made a difference.
We have just witnessed the impact of a group that chose to seize the opportunity. What a difference they made. In early June, fifty four youth and sixteen leaders from First Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, came to help and bless us. They worked hard for nearly four days. They removed our deteriorating tree house and built a new one. They removed the broken down fence along Cheyenne Creek and constructed a new one. They removed the carpet from our third floor Child and Youth Center and installed new colorful “kid friendly” floor covering. They cleaned out our furniture storage area, paint shed and garage, along with numerous other projects to improve and beautify. In many locations they painted appropriate scriptures to encourage and instruct.
They impacted us through what they did and how they did it. The leadership was coordinated and efficient. The attitudes of leaders and students showed respect, helpfulness and joy as they worked. They took on a long list of tasks and they accomplished them. They provided the money and manpower to clean, repair and create. They relieved the FLS staff of a great burden. Students and leaders blessed the families in various ways by interacting, playing and instructing the children about how and why they were doing their jobs. A lot of tears were shed when the volunteers left after four hard-working, loving days at Family Life Services. One word was used repeatedly to describe these days. That word was AMAZING. Because they seized the opportunity they have helped move us into the future. WHAT A BLESSING!
Yes, we still need volunteers. There are opportunities to work with children and teens, mentor mothers through Bible study or homemaking skills, or assist with upkeep of the facilities. If you are interested please seize the opportunity and contact us. We are also in need of your prayer and financial support. Together we can make a difference for families.
